Julie Mehretu

Julie Mehretu makes large-scale, gestural paintings that are built up through layers of acrylic paint on canvas overlaid with mark-making using pencil, pen, ink and thick streams of paint. Mehretu’s work conveys a layering and compression of time, space and place. As trying out marking on a larger scale with different materials and over lapping each layer I like this art work as it is done with feeling and expression which Is a personal way of creating a piece of art. I also like the composition of this particular piece and the variations of different marks and lines. 

Jennifer West

I like Jennifer Wests art work as she produces different marks and uses different materials on photos from films, this includes movement in her artwork and experimentation. I like the bright colours with the still real life photos making the piece of art look unrealistic and transforming the mood of different photos that she has used. 

Rebecca Horn

Rebecca Horns work focuses on her movement. She creates her artwork like the one above by strapping long sticks into her fingertips and freely drawing and marking out her work. I like the colours and different marks this piece has. I also like the composition and how the top of the piece is very busy contrasting with the bottom of the piece which is almost plain. I also like the different variations of her artwork and technique of how she paints after testing it out myself it is transforming feelings/expressions into a piece of art.  

Tony Cragg

 

I find Tony Craggs work interesting to look at as it involves a variety of colour, shapes and texture.

His collection of random colourful objects makes his art very effective yet simple.

His work has giving me an inspiring idea towards a piece of art I can create.

Fiona Rae

 

Fiona Rae's art focuses on nature and culture being transformed into her own experiment.

Her work involves the main colour purple as she is fond of this colour, as am I. The art she creates are a mix of thoughts and feelings which I also think is an important factor to have when creating art.

 

Nancy Spero

 

Nancy Spero's work consists of simple backgrounds filled with quick sketches,  her work has a limited colour palette of mostly black , white and red. I like her work as she includes feminist views and expresses her feelings In art form. She has a lot of patterns in her work which I like however she also includes detailed drawings which is a nice contrast.

Yinka Shonibare

 

Im interested in Yinka Shonibare's work as it is full of bright colours and complicated patterns, which I love in pieces of art. He captures simple photos but mixes them with the busy patterns and shapes which is an unusual but eye catching way of capturing art.
